SVOTD 0005 Sea Cow Island, British Indian Ocean Territory

SVOTD: StreetView Of The Day: Sea Cow Island

Also known as Île Vache Marine, is a round 18 ha island on the Great Chagos Bank atoll of the Chagos Archipelago in the British Indian Ocean Territory. It is the smaller of the two islands in the Eagle Islands group on the western side of the atoll and forms part of the Chagos Archipelago strict nature reserve. It has been identified as an Important Bird Area by BirdLife International because of its significance as a breeding site for Brown Noddies, of which 11,500 pairs were recorded in a 2004 survey.

Location: In the middle of the Indian Ocean.

Even thought this island is so remote and so faraway from the main land of any country but still it has Google StreetView that covers the whole island which is embedded here-under for you to explore. (click on the button in the top right corner for full screen)

How long do you think you can last in the ocean before you drown?

The ocean is brutal, horrifying and unexpected, even with the proper equipment people might face troubles and might lose their lives.
Imagine yourself in the open water struggling to survive, how long you could live out there?

How terrified you would be? Knowing that the closest shores are hours away.

Sortie en mer ("A Trip Out To Sea") is an online drowning  simulator or interactive movie. It puts you into the first-person view of a sailing enthusiast as he gets knocked overboard.
I have tried to play the simulator a few times. I did not survive and eventually I drowned.

If you are interested to play the simulator you can find it on
Come back and comment on how was the experience and long did you last in the open water?

Safe trip.

Breathtaking Satellite Photos That Will Change How You See Our World

Our project was inspired, and derives its name, from an idea known as the Overview Effect. This term refers to the sensation astronauts have when given the opportunity to look down and view the Earth as a whole. They have the chance to appreciate our home in its entirety, to reflect on its beauty and its fragility all at once. That's the cognitive shift that we hope to inspire.
From our line of sight on the earth's surface, it’s impossible to fully appreciate the beauty and intricacy of the things we’ve constructed, the sheer complexity of the systems we’ve developed, or the devastating impact that we’ve had on our planet. We believe that beholding these forces as they shape our Earth is necessary to make progress in understanding who we are as a species, and what is needed to sustain a safe and healthy planet.
As a result, the Overviews (what we call these images) focus on the the places and moments where human activity—for better or for worse—has shaped the landscape. Each Overview starts with a thought experiment. We consider the places where man has left his mark on the planet and then conduct the necessary research to identify locations (and the corresponding geo-coordinates) to convey that idea.
The mesmerizing flatness seen from this vantage point, the surprising comfort of systematic organization on a massive scale, or the vibrant colors that we capture will hopefully turn your head. However, once we have that attention, we hope you will go beyond the aesthetics, contemplate just exactly what it is that you're seeing, and consider what that means for our planet. The people behind this beautiful project write: “The mesmerizing flatness seen from this vantage point, the surprising comfort of systematic organization on a massive scale, or the vibrant colors that we capture will hopefully turn your head.
